美国教育语言学的学科发展及对我国的启示

【英文标题】The Development of Educational Linguistics as a Field in the US and Its Implications to China
In recent years, there emerged an argument in the linguistics academic community as to which discipline foreign language teaching belongs to. Some scholars introduced the name of"educational linguistics" to refer to foreign language teaching. However, what is educational linguistics? Its concept and nature has not yet been agreed upon by Chinese scholars. The term has been misused, confused, and cross-used with other terms in current papers. So what is the research scope of educational linguistics? How does it relate to the other branches of linguistics? Does it belong to linguistics or to education? Based on the case study of the doctoral program of educational linguistics at University of Pennsylvania in the US, this paper attempts to find answers to these questions by tracing the historical development of educational linguistics as a field and clarifying its definition, nature, and scope. Implications to the interdisciplinary program development between linguistics and education in China are offered in the end.

可以说,中国学术界基本上是把教育语言学归入语言学下面的一个学科,与应用语言学、社会语言学、心理语言学并列。Johnson, K. &Johnson, H.(1998)也认为教育语言学是语言学的一个分支。但是美国教育语言学专业的学科布局很是发人深思。几所拥有教育语言学专业的大学,如宾夕法尼亚大学、新墨西哥大学、斯坦福大学,都把该专业放在了教育学院。虽然从语言学家Hymes在宾大教育学院成立教育语言学专业开始,该专业就一直与宾大的语言学系维系着密切的联系和互动,如这两个专业共享某些教师和课程,教育语言学专业的博士生要至少选修语言学系的两门课,而教育语言学也成为语言学系的博士生在通过博士资格考试时可以选择的11个研究方向之一,但是教育学院始终是教育语言学的栖身之所。
